Dr. Trent is Co-Executive Director of Psychiatric & Psychological Associates of Durham, PLLC, which she joined in 1986, after an active academic career in medical psychology, program development and outcome research. She received her original doctorate at Northwestern University, a Post-Doctoral Degree at Baylor College of Medicine, and a Post-Doctoral Degree in Counseling Psychology at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. She completed her Psychology Internship at the VA Medical Center in Durham. As a licensed psychologist, Dr. Trent’s clinical work addresses the needs of adults in the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, psychological components of medical illness, relationship difficulties, and career change. She treats individuals, as well as couples, and has a particular expertise in working with dying individuals and their families. Her clinical method is eclectic with an emphasis on insight and problem solving. Prior to joining PPAD, Dr. Trent served on medical center faculties at the University of Illinois, Duke University, and visiting faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill. She conducted research, published, and obtained grant funding for the training of health professionals in the psychosocial concepts of general health care. She continues these efforts in private practice through her consulting to health care organizations. She has presented at international, national and statewide conferences and has served on the Boards of non-profit organizations and professional associations.
